OK Comics is hosting a signing event with Marvel Zombies and Criminal artist Sean Phillips on Thursday 26th October, from 5pm. Sean will be signing the Marvel Zombies hardcover and issue 1 of the new Marvel Icon crime series Criminal, and any of his published work that you care to bring along. Apparently he'll also be giving away an original piece of art. There will be more details as and when we know them.
Sounds good to me :) Thursdays are a good day for me. I think its a Thursday! My friend Jim would like an autograph from Sean, as he is a fan (I will have to mail it)...
only its a bit embarrassing because I havent encountered Sean`s work yet. I will have to see what Jim likes... I have been collecting 2 years and dont know half as much as quite a few people on here
We're trying to get more Marvel Zombies hardback in time for the signing but apparently it's out of print. Hopefully we'll have some of the issues back in stock. And we'll have plenty of Criminal #1.
i dont know how to make zombie cake....but i'll try. maybe i'll make it now and it can go off by then.... you should def have free comics... i'm always a fan of free reading material
Definitely sounds like a good idea, also some Sleeper trades would be a good thing to buy with him there. I'll spread the word about this too on the online forums I lurk on. By the time I get there out of work it would be gone 6pm, so hopefully he'll still be there.
We'll have some of the single issues but none of the books. I don't know about a sleeve thingy, but we will have book plate which Sean will be signing. A book plate is a limited edition print that is produced to be signed by an author, or artist, with the ultimate intention of attaching it to the book in question. Book plates are often used to produce signed editions when the actual book is unavailable for signing, for example, when shipping quantaties of a book to an authors home for signing is too costly, or when a book is, as in this case, temporarily out of print. Anybody who buy's a book plate on the evening will be entitled to FREE copy of the new edition of Marvel Zombies when it's available in a few weeks. This is the only time and only place in the world that this book plate, provided by Sean Phillips, will be available. Quantities are limited.
I am really excited now :) I cant wait. Not sure what time i will be there. I only work on Rounday Road (nr Thundercity!) but i will have to wait for a bus and walk from Vicar Lane. bit of a trek at the end of the day lol!
They love you. Apperently the police almost had to close the event down because there were too many lasses sat in the aisles, and girls stealing and mums kicking off cos there daughters were crying....
I might come, 'cause I had to spend £6 on pens, I might not have the nuts to show up as I might not be able to afford my weekly comics. Then again, I've been saving up a minor rain day like this.
Also I've gathered that bands that have a predominantly fanbase of the opposite sex pretty much depend on that sector of 'music lovers', also I don't really understand all of the new stuff that comes out, it all seems like a lowering of standards to me.
hey I'd wanna be in a band and be adored by people, screaming in love for me and saying my lyerics are deep and meaningful with the hottest of hot (and very nice, smart with personality girls) chasing me.
being a band gets you something pretty much all the time so yeah its cool.
must suck for a gf tho. I mean how do you contend with groupies unless you are one and like to share?
Looks like i can be there for 5.30pm. I will be in the traditional Canary Yellow!! I just dont know anything about Marvel Zombies, so i might need help.
Aye I went. Long queue but Sean Phllips was a really nice guy. Gave me advise and was really cool. I got a personal sketch and picked up an OK bun as wel which was quite nice, and staved off my hunger to.
Totally fab night. Totally fab people. Totally fab cake and totally fab drinks afterwards. Still not sure exactly who the guy behind the desk was but he scribbled something on a piece of paper i gave him, so that was nice.
I had a great time. Got home safely around 11pm. Missed the bus and couldnt find anything this morning!! Yep 3 halves of Guiness and a have a slight hang over :0
Seriously it was nice to meet everyone. And I am out at a leaving do (meal) tonight too. Its nice to put names to faces. And Sean signed my Criminal cover :)
Just wanted to say kudos for getting Phillips to do a signing. Seemed like a really nice guy, signed my Marvel Zombies hardcover and drew me a zombiefied Hulk aswell.
I hope everyone who bought copies of Criminal to get signed have also read it, as its been one of the best new series' to start in ages! It's like a HBO crime series with dirty crooks and dirtier cops, and it's probably the best comic art I've seen from Sean, not to mention the best comic Brubaker is writing at the minute. He's writing Uncanny, Daredevil, Captain America, and more I'm sure, but Criminal feels like the direct successor to Sleeper that they worked on together, which is probably the best series either have made to date. I think the next issue is due next week, so keep your eyes peeled for it! Or better yet, add it to your standing order! haha! Just think - the more poular the series, the more those signed copies will be worth! : )
Brubaker is at his best when he's writing about men who's lives and worlds are beyond their control. That's why characters like Matt Murdock in Daredevil, Holden Carver in Sleeper, Steve Rogers in Captain America and Vulcan Summers in Uncanny X-Men are ideal for his writing style. Anyone enjoying this stuff, and wanting more, should check out Brubakers early semi-autobio stuff, which he expertly illustrated himself, in Lowlife. OK usually keep Complete Lowlife in stock. Even though it's about regular people, doing regular stuff the similarities to his superhero stuff are remarkably obvious.
Hehe I am hiding behind the lillies! If you have a magnifying glass you can see me (??) I had a great time :)
Anyone been to Page 45 comic shop in Nottingham? Or know if its central? Mum and I are going to Nottingham on saturday - shopping. I need an excuse to pop in!
Page 45 is indeed in central Nottingham, and it's well worth a visit. I think it's on Market Street which is one of the streets which lead off the main kind of square are in the city centre. It's quite near Debenhams.
Oh, guys, those girls are, like, 12, or something.
Come on, you know the X wouldn't do anything, he's a true gent and doesn't want to bother them with unwanted attention. Everyone knows that he would give in to his feelings only at a distance. It's an O.C.
My original "cor blimey guv", for clarity's sake, was an expression of my surprise that the lass in the pink top had the audacity to try and get her McShake signed instead of a comic.
you guys chose to poje fun at me and convenantly forget I didnt start it. I only gave the description of the girls int he pic to make sure were all on about the same girls. Coz there oculd have been cross wires otherwise.
