I've been thinking how the Spidey films would've turned out if they hadn't featured an awful 'comedy' interlude with Peter sporting an emo fringe and parading around like a total dick.
probably the same. i do wonder why they used MJ (not that i have anything against her, unlike say, an editor in chief). Perhaps its in case they confused anyone who went out and picked up the comics, what with him being married to MJ now. Or, er, then as the case may be. Missed a trick really, not using Gwen. It would have been interesting to see the films catch up with her death.
Id only known Mary Jane from the 90s cartoon series since they wouldn't use a character who was going to be killed off due to all the censor ship (he wasnt even allowed near pigions)...
What actual year did Gwen die? I've been steeped in Marvel since childhood, but I find it easy to forget Gwen and consider MJ to be the 'correct' girl for Pete.
Ok, cheers Wikipedia. Gwen died in June 1973, and I swapped Marvel comics for a social life in 1984 (it was a good deal, no regrets). Maybe that's why the films used MJ - she's more familiar to the last couple of generations of Spidey fans.
If they go with the Ultimate story line in the new films (which they're supposed to be doing), then Maybe Gwen will be in there. The way she was tacked on the the last film was pointless.
If you read ASM 121 & 122 you'll see that they used specific elements from the "Death" storyline in the first movie, admittedly using MJ instead of Gwen and stopping short of killing her.
they should base the new one on Brand New Day if they want to retcon things, which films even count as proper since Marvel keep tieing theres together...
That's a real question by the way. I've got it on Sky+ and it's been there a while now, squatting there making me feel all tense and irritable because I still haven't watched it. I'm not avoiding it either, I just don't get chance to watch films a lot (because I am busy building a rocket to send Cranston Jnr off in when this sad doomed world implodes). Last night I had the chance to watch a film....
...And I chose Tell No One, another film guilt tripping me from the blue barred jail of Sky+. It was a decent little film. It's not a comic film, I think it's based on one of those US doorstop thrillers that are okay when you read them but 5 seconds later you can't remember them. Had it been American the over familiarity of the whole thing would have been too obvious but the restrained Gallic approach camouflaged all that nicely. Yeah, it was okay. But it wasn't Spider-Man 3.
Should I have watched Spider-Man 3? Was I given a choice and chose EVIL? Or should I just delete Spider-Man 3 and save myself some pain?
Some of Spider-man 3 is terrible, and some of it is ok. They tried to fit too much in. Gwen Stacy is one example. It's like they suddenly decided Gwen Stacy MUST be in a Spidey film, but had no idea how to fit her in. Likewise Venom.
It's worth watching though. There are much worse films around.
The good bits are good, the bad bits are terrible! They needed to introduce and shame Eddie Brock in the second film, fitting all that in the 3rd didn't work. And they needed to cast someone else. The guy playing Sandman was spot on though. The studio should have trusted Sam Raimi after the first two films instea dof forcing so much stuff on him in the 3rd.
It is decided then, by the vote of the goodly Forumites! Spider-Man 3 stays on sky+! Say now, had a dream last night. Tobey Maguire was dancing. He was beautiful. He was dancing. Sounds like you've got something in your throat there, smiggy3000, something...awesome!
