    Hi there,

As you all know OK Comics are in a bit of trouble at the moment which isn't trouble just for them, it's trouble for all of us! Where else can we go where your favourite author is remembered and kept in that lovely cupboard for you? Where else can you go to have a friendly chat with the awesome staff about the best things ever?

So, in honour of wanting this to last forever OK Comics and The Smitten Bunny present....

Scott Pilgrim's Battle of the Band!

    Featuring:

The super exciting launch of book 6 of Scott Pilgrim, awesome!

    COWTOWN and HARRY CALLAHAN!

Watching COWTOWN feels like you have just entered a world where everything is colourful geometric shapes. COWTOWN bring super poppy pop music to your ears with sweet hooks and carbonated keyboards. http://www.myspace.com/cowtownsuperstars

    HARRY CALLAHAN

Super fast female fronted hardcore punk, HARRY CALLAHAN get through 12 songs in 20 minutes, blink and you'll miss them, watch and you'll faint! http://www.myspace.com/harrycallahanleeds

I'm pretty sure you all know what Scott Pilgrim is so I'll spare you the blurb.

Get ready to dance in a comic shop, watch COWTOWN battle their ex boyfriend HARRY CALLAHAN in a mad wall of sound!

It will be free and at 7pm on Friday the 20th of August.

This is very unlikely to happen as Leeds City Council have just told me that we're not allowed to do it. And if we do I'll face a £20,000 fine and six months imprisonment.

"The Man" has really got it in for OK.
  5.
I doubt we'd all have fit inside anyways...

Leeds City Council are a bunch of philistines. How else do you explain the ugly chocolate box that now makes up the city skyline with its mish mash of grasping modernist buildings? and the awesome mandela gardens, which are a shadow of what they once were now they've been concreted over and replaced by er, a fountain and some hands!

I used to love Mandela Gardens.

The whole idea behind the gig at OK (which would easily have fit as we would have spilled out into the arcade) was to get a bit of press coverage, a bit of exposure, and either celebrate the end of the building work or commiserate the closing of OK Comics... and have a Late Launch for Scott Pilgrim Vol 6.

Certain people have put quite a lot of effort into organising this.
You know who you are. Thanks for all your hard work.

No chance of moving it over to a local venue and get a bit of cross promotion going?

Possibly, and a good idea, but that kind of defeats the object of getting people to the shop.

We have got a massive 25p back issue sale this weekend, so that should bring a few people in.

    Hiya kids,

Yup, as Jared says, totally stinks. I thought there could be nothing better than playing in a comic book shop but well, the council disagree so it ain't happening.

Jared and I are rather sad about this, apologies to anyone else who was also looking forward to it.

I don't really want to move the gig to anywhere else because god damn, I wanna play in OK Comics!
  9.
well, if nothing else, i have two new bands to get into that wouldn't have otherwise cropped up on my radar :)
  10.
and i was looking forward to a mish mash of radishes too

Seems a shame to cancel the whole thing just cos it can't be in the shop, would be a great bit of cross-promotion and I'm sure one of the many small venues in Leeds would be up for it (but then it's been years since I've organised any gigs and have no idea how open the music scene is these days, but I have fond memories of gigs getting cancelled and running round every single place we could find until ending up in some crappy little pub and it turning out to be one of the best gigs. Ah, happy days ).

really sorry to hear about this - if there's anything i/cops and robbers can do to help let me know.
you're welcome to do some kind of stall at our next party if that would help.. cowtown are playing so it could be a way to redirect people towards another event where they can come browse a stall. it wouldn't be the same as a gig in the shop of course, but anything we can do just give me a shout.
