Yeah, the producers pretty publicly stated that Ed Norton was a great actor, and they were happy to pay his usual fee, but that they'd rather have an actor who could work with other actors. I guess they didn't expect him to be a team player.
I'm totally expecting this Avengers movie to be a total mess. I can imagine there being so many scheduling problems that we'll never see all the actors/characters on screen at the same time. Downey JR and Sam Jackson will probably be in it about as much as Willis and Arnie were in Expendables. Loads of it will be stuntmen in masks or computer generated stuff.
Those producers are right that Edward Norton can’t work with other actors. In American History X he actually plays every single character himself using only the magic of mimicry and a diverse range of papier mache masks. In Fight Club he is animated entirely by Pixar and completed the voice-overs while orbiting the Earth in a one-man space capsule. The Italian Job was plagued with problems when Norton refused to appear in scenes with the other actors unless a morbidly obese man called Terry “Eggs” Benedict stood in front of him and pushed away anyone who came within arm’s reach. Things came to a head with Red Dragon when he would only shout his lines from behind a closed door. Edward Norton now has it written into his contract that he will only appear in Muppet movies. That crazy Edward Norton!
Your misgivings dismay me OKComicsman! As long as someone mentions S.H.I.E.L.D and we can see the reflection of Ultron's head in the windscreen of the third car from the left fourth row back in the car park scene it will be Avengers-tastic! I want to know if the Avengers film going to be faithful to the source though? Unless Hulk runs off to join the circus (claiming to be a robot!) and ends up juggling elephants while wearing clown make-up I’m just not interested. You can keep all your fanboy friendly “Easter eggs” I want robot clown Hulk juggling elephants. Mind you, I don’t want Goliath in that skeevy S&M outfit he used to wear. That’s a deal breaker that one. You can keep that one.
