So here's what we've done... We've added more graphic novels shelves upstairs... which means we've expanded our Vertigo section and added in more Horror stuff (Walking Dead, Hellboy, 30 Days of Night etc) and stuff like Kabuki and Kane... which has freed up space down stairs and made room for and enbiggened 'indie' section... and made room for a recently released graphic novel section alongside the new release comics.
It's become really obvious over the last year that comic sales are on the decline and graphic novel sales are increasing... well, certainly at OK Comics.
i think its a shame that more folks are buying the graphic novels. it just seems more fun to me to collect individual issues and have a bit of a collection rather than getting em all in one nice big book. thats why i spend ages rifling through all the back issues and hopefully finding summat i like.
its economy of scale, stehope. a lot of individual issues have been about £3 on release. a couple of those and you're halfway to a trade anyway. plus, storytelling in comics over the last ten years has leaned towards reading better in a collected format, with little happening on an issue by issue basis. it is a shame, but thats progress!
