The launch of DC's New 52 has been big news in the comic book world and, after a few reactionary outcries, the general reaction has been extremely positive. Extremely positive. So... To mark the momentous release of Action Comics, featuring Superman, and Detective Comics, featuring Batman, OK Comics will be open for a Midnight Release Party on the evening of Tuesday 6th September and the very early hours of Wednesday 7th September. We'll be open from 11pm until 1am. At one minute past midnight the new first issues of Action written by Grant Morrison and Detective by Tony Daniel, will go on sale; as will Swamp Thing, OMAC, Batwing, Batgirl, Stormwatch, Animal Man, Justice League International, Men of War, Hawk & Dove and Green Arrow, all stating new series with new issue 1's. This will be the first full week for all the new DC launches. Also available will be Justice League 1 by Jim Lee and Geoff Johns, released the previous week.
There will be refreshments available at OK Comics on the evening. There will be special deals available on this night only, and only for people who attend the midnight release.
A lot of people are speculating as to which issue one will be the one to rocket in value. It's going to be one of the lesser ordered but quietly awesome series. My money's on OMAC. I'll also be keeping a close eye on All Star Western (Jonah Hex) and Men of War (Sgt Rock).
We're having a 20% off all graphic novels sale for the two hours that we're open on the Tuesday Night, Wednesday Morning. (not including stuff that's already reduced). We will also be massively reducing a range of DC Graphic Novels and DC Comics Presents'.
In the interest of fair play, we'll also be selling issue one of the following Marvel comics for £1.99: - Captain America - Daredevil - FF - Ghost Rider - Moon Knight - Punisher - Mighty Thor
We will have a local writer, science fiction enthusiast and time travel expert delivering a short presentation on the metaphysical and temporal history of the DC Universe.
In a moment of masochistic weirdness, I briefly considered Hawk & Dove. Then I came to my senses. But at least one person didn't, clearly. It's a mad world.
No, Grandad, I don't! Haw Haw! (That's funny because I'm even older than he is - see?!) I bet it said "Great news for readers, inside!" and then told you your comic was going to be cancelled and you'd have to buy this other comic with only a couple of characters from the old comic carried over. Kids, if you ever see "Great news for readers, inside!" - they are usually lying.
Today I am remembering being young and buying Summer Specials featuring ugly children engaged in violent acts printed on big but thin glossy pages and sitting on the beach with an ice cream unaware that out there was The Future circling like a great white.
Thanks. In future I'm going to put that in stead of lol... "I liked you joke", screw it, I'm going to do that in stead of laughing at funny stuff in real life... "I liked your joke".
having now read Action comics 1, Detctive comics 1, Green Arrow 1, Batgirl 1 and hawk and dove I have come to the conclushion that i like continuety. I am afraid the new line up just left me cold. I like coming in to a story working out whats happening and like that my favourite characters have grown with me. What ever we face in life molds into the people we are and the same with hero's we read about they grow and are molded.
A good debate on where a story fits in a characters life line is as fun as reading the comic.
The best issue of batman I have read was just after Batman R.I.P. Where they are at batmans funeral and rebirths each reliving there version of a hero and his death the rich histories make hero's richer and more diverse.
And the Arts appaling on Green arrow Absaloutly no life or movement even in fight scenes just dread full
