There's a very good chance that there will be a job vacancy at OK Comics in the coming weeks and months. There is potential for us to employ one full time, or two part time members of staff.
OK Comics is an award winning specialist retailer, so all our staff must be comic book experts. A casual interest in comics is great, but our customers are interested in a very extensive variety of comics, and we must be ready for them all. We face a wide range of shopper enquiries every day and all our staff must be equipped with knowledge of all aspects of the publishing and distribution of comics and graphic novels, so a good working knowledge of this is preferable.
Duties will include: - Working the cash register. - Dealing with customers instore and online. - Cleaning. - Unpacking, sorting and pricing deliveries of stock. - Packing and despatching mail order goods. - Recording and monitoring sales. and all other day to day aspects of a busy high street retail outlet.
Candidates should be aware that retail often involves long hours, and unexpected extra work, so flexibility is very important. Applicants must also be technically competent and have a good working knowledge of the internet, ebay and online social networking, have a good telephone manner and, obviously, great interpersonal skills. Applicants should ideally, though not essentially, have retail, customer service experience preferably in the book, comic or record industry.
The successful applicant or applicants will be friendly and outgoing without being overbearing; keen to help encourage the general public to read comics. While OK Comics doesn't have a uniform or strict dress policy, the successful candidate must be clean, smart and have good hygiene.
All staff at OK Comics, past and present, have dedicated themselves to expanding their product knowledge, reading books outside their usual comfort zone in order to increase their awareness and serve customers better. Any new member of staff must continue this trend.
If you think you are able to add to OK Comics high level of customer service and product knowledge, please send a CV, including a brief covering letter, to shop@okcomics.co.uk The covering letter must say how long you've been collecting and regularly reading comics and graphic novels. We also want to know who your favourite publisher is, and why; what's your favourite comic of all time; why you want to work at OK Comics and what changes you'd like to implement if you get the job. IF YOU DO NOT PROVIDE A COVERING LETTER INCLUDING THIS INFORMATION YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE PROCCESSED.
Please be aware that even when we're not advertising for staff we are bombarded with CV's, resumes and applications, so I expect that we will only be able to contact the applicants we will want to interview.
I would love to work there. What are the different hows between a full and part time worker? And who should we address the applications too, I usually just put OK Comics down when I contact the shop.
There is no longer an employment opportunity at OK Comics. I'm really, really happy that Oliver has decided to stay here for the foreseeable future.
I guess now I can talk about the weird questions people have asked about the job. My favourite has been "Do I have to know about all comics? Marvel AND DC?".
I'm glad OKOliver decided to plump for OKComics. After all SHERLOCK was good and you two were great in it but Leeds needs its fine comic shop more. TV's loss is comics' gain!
Hurrah! For OKOliver! To show how grateful he is I hear OKComics man has extended the chain around OKOliver's ankle by three links. He can now just make it to the loo.
The "O" in OKComics stands for "Oliver". Always has, always will.
