Drink and Draw hit's Leeds. It combines two great things, drinking and drawing. It's a chance for amature comic artists, young graphic designers and anybody who's interested to team up, swap ideas, drink and draw. The first 'meet' is at the Swan, Monday 16th April, where they've generously agreed to reserve an area for us, so come and join us behind the velvet rope, bring your pencils and your beer money. THE NEXT DRUNKEN DRAW MEETING IS ON MONDAY 18th AUGUST, FROM 7PM.
Any more info? Bring our own sketchpads? Is it basically sitting around drinking and doodling and chatting? Sounds amazing. Be ace if alot of people turned up for this, I would be up for it. Georgiana, we should have a sneaky discussion about knitted comic bags, Im always up for a new knitting/ geeky challenge.
bleh, just finished the pencilling on one OK themed piece after 4 abysmal attempts (1 Batman, 1 Jay & Silent Bob and 2 Green Gobin orientated pieces) after which I gave up and threw up quick OKMan piece. I failed horribly at drawing my other ideas, mainly because I don't like drawing the animated Jay and Silent Bob styles, I can't draw the Green Gobin and embrassingly drew the action piece and didn't leave enough space for Batman on the page.
Yes! I am up for it. Only just got back from hols at lunchtime. What time does i start? I am in need of some inspiration :) Tried drawing Sparta`s courtyard - its harder than it looks!
I'm going to be at The Swan from about 6.30 ish. The Swan is in Swan Street, the back alley which runs parallel to Thorntons Arcade. Hopefully we'll have a small area reserved for us drinkers and drawers...
Massive thanks to everyone who came along to the Drink And Draw evening last night. Good turn out from the forumites, customers and staff. We took over a couple of tables, rolled out the paper and just drew 'till we couldn't draw no more. The quality varied wildly, so any body who wants to attend future meets needn't feel intimidated. There'll be a sellection of artwork on display in OK soon.
I had a great time. It was a good opportunity to sit and chat with customers I don't normally get to spend much time with.
Fantastic night, I loved it and it was nice meeting and talking to such friendly people into comics with doodling involved, everyones stuff varied and I felt relaxed, me and my friend will definitely be bugging OK to do this again and look forward to the art up in the shop. We actually went onto somewhere else and continued drawing until late closing, hard core!
Howdy, what a great night! I still can’t believe I managed to multitask, need I say I can’t wait for the next one! Although try as a may I didn’t quite capture the essence of a pineapple… :P thanks guys an gals
I would have liked to stay longer. Unfortunately work permitted the next day and I have to rely on lifts :(
Think i spent more time yapping than working. Still I had a great time. Though all the stuff I did at Art College was geared up to what they do on Changing Rooms (!) rather than Graphic Design. I LOVE that show. It was a Great night!
There are now a few photographs from the Drink and Draw eveing on the 'about page' on the main OK website (there's a link at the top of this page). The next event is tentitavely scheduled for Monday 21st May. Any thoughts...
I can make the one on May 21st, if its still going ahead. I need inspiration! Maybe we could have a theme. mind you a lot of people on here seemed good at the Technical/ Graphics art side. That would leave me out :(
Do new people really come to this? If I turn up alone will it be to a tight group of old friends who know loads about comics because I am quite the ignorant newcomer. I fear new situations but love both drinking and drawing, so I might scuttle along anyway. And then scuttle away pretending I'd walked into the wrong pub.
The upcoming event will only be the second time we've done this. Quite a few people came to the first one who didn't know anybody else. Everyone there was pretty friendly. If you're a bit scared feel free to bring a friend. The more, the merrier.
Is anyone likely to be in the Swan around 5pmish? I only work on Roundhay Road and its pointless me going home and coming back. So i thought I may as well ask.
I am not entirely sure what I am doing yet but I will need something to eat. I will post again nearer the time.
Thanks to everybody who came along last night. We had twice as many people as last time. Keep an eye on the website and the walls of OK for some visual evidence of the event.
Always great fun, although I always get stuck for things to draw when Im actually there. Maybe we should have a hat with ideas in incase people get stuck.
I havent been on here for AGES. Thankfully I get a boss next week after 2 years!! I will try get to the drink & draw, if I can find some energy. I have been finishing at 5pm this time of year so i might want to go straight home.
Ill be there, even with my dodgy tooth, Ill cure it with doodles I will. Unfortunately my girlfriend has a new hamster so theyll be plenty of hamster drawings as always.
Bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger, I have an interview after work and then travelling to London!!! Jeez, I haven't made one of these yet and they sound like fun!!!
3rd sept was a really good night. I hope this manages to become a very regular event. anyone who loves comics and has a passion,or even a passing interest, for holding a pen and drawing comic related ideas should get down to one of these. plus , there's a good range of beers on sale.
in reply to Devilshadow, by regularly, I mean that it doesn't skip a month, but bi-weekly would also be cool! this is a really good thing and I'd like to see it grow.
Happy Birthday to Darko28! You can now buy Punisher Max without OKComicsman going to prison! He might even let you root around in his special man-stack of "art" comics. Many Happy Returns!
I shall be there. After my breakdown in Cornwall realising I wont have a comic shop when I move there I have to get all the Drink and Draws in whilst I still can.
Totally fab idea, Mr Shadow!!!!! I'll be there so I'll bring one! I got Jared's last time and it had some interesting stuff on it ... theme tune to the Fall Guy or something!
