And so it finally comes to a conclusion... how long has it been? Two years?
I never really got into this storyline as much as the first Ultimates arc, but at least they finished it off pretty well. It was basically guaranteed to be a letdown after all the delays and slippage though.
I really liked the bit in the middle of the book. That made me smile.
I wonder when the next arc with Joe Mad will start? 2020?
I didn't feel let down at all. Absolutely perfectly weighted between blockbuster action and quiet personal moments. Brings a whole new meaning to the classic phrase "Hawkeye's Revenge".
Ultimates2 13 was the only comic to have an explosive 8 page fold out action sequence this week. But does that make it the best? I really enjoyed the 'Captain America' issue of Fallen Son this week. I don't think it's giving too much away if I let slip that it's Clint Barton in Captain America's pj's. He seems to be better with the shield than anybody else, but he doesn't like SHIELD. And just what is the new security director (Tony Stark) doing to solve the mystery of his ex best mate's death? Lots of questions answered, lots of cromulent questions asked, and JR jr rocking his cocking socks off. Ex Machina continues to be the strongest character driven series on the shelves. Just the right ballance of action adventure, intrigue, realitic snappy dialoge and quiet personal moments. Even though I don't want it to end, I'm really looking forward to this series reaching conclusion so I can enjoy it again in it's entirety. I think All Star Batman and Robin The Boy Wonder is an experiment in reader tolerance. How long is too long between issues? A year? Maybe. Let's see. How far out of character can we portray one of comics best loved characters and still have people buy the godam comic? Dunno. Let's see. How repetative and bland can one of the most repected writers in comic become before people drop the series like a dead rat? How few panels per page can one of the best loved comic artists in the industry get away with? How slow can we retell a story everybody's known for years? I haven't reached my tolerance limit. Yet. But I can see it from here. Mighty Avengers reached a series high this week. It had Tigra in it. She's completely covered in fur y'know. And a helicarrier fell down. And (baby's got) Back Widow was boss of SHIELD for 10 minutes. I think I've read my last Army@Love, 30 Days of Night and Countdown. Life's too short to dance with ugly chicks, as they say.
I wonder if they'll work the 8 page fold out into the trade or just split it over pages?
Fallen Son was indeed brilliant this last week, the story made sense and JR Jr was brilliant as always.
Also agree about Mighty Avengers, the scene with Sentry looking up at the Hellicarrier was awesome! And I agree with Aries thoughts on Black Widow ;-)
Uncanny X-Men was a little bit of a let down. Nothing wrong with the story or the art overall, just felt a bit rushed. Could have done with being spread over 2 issues, and, y'know, actually show a bit of mourning for the death of such a long running character.
Highlight of the week for me was Storm Shadow #1, which probably wouldn't interest anyone on here cos it's a GI Joe spin off, but it was one of the best books I've read in years. The art work was a bit scrappy, but fit the flow and theme of the comic, and the colouring was nice and muted, looking more like a European comic than an American one. But "who is Storm Shadow?" I don't hear any of you ask. He's a bit of a mixed up Bruce Lee look-alike, fought in Vietnam, joined his hamily "business" (ninja clan), and wa sframed for the murder of his uncle, so he joined Cobra (the bad guys) to find the real killer, later on he joined the GI Joe team, but has had a few internal conficts since then. This series see's him branching out on his own and requires no real knowledge of the GI Joe comics at all. It's similar in tone to Iron Fist, but with a lot more mystery and a lot less corporate shenanigans. It will probably get cancelled within a year, but if the first issue is any indication then I'm really gonna enjoy this series.
Hang on. OKcomicsman is saying he preferred Jeph "Writing English As A Second Language" Loeb and whoever is writing Kleenex Avenger's output to ASB&RTBW? Wow, I see no recourse but for you to drop ASB&RTBW forthwith. I mean you must think it's pretty stinky. You'll feel better, you don't need pain like that. No man does. It sounds like Hell. Hell. Or the next best thing. Me, I think it's a hoot,a blast, I'm having a ball. In fact they could really ramp it up, put the pedal to the metal and make it come out bi-annually for me. G*ddamn, but it's one crazy @ss ride of a funnybook. As for dancing with ugly girls, luckily girls don't share your view r.e. dancing with ugly men, or I'd still be single.
