I've decided that OK Comics is going to run a bit of an experiment.
We've found that when a graphic novel collection comes out in hardback very few people buy them as they choose to wait for the cheaper paperback. But when the paperback comes out, often months later, people tend to pass them by in favor of something newer.
Over the next few months we're going to select a few Hardbacks and sell them at a paperback price...
...starting with Iron Fist Vol 1, which reprints the first storyline of the current series, and Brian Vaughan's overlooked marvel superhero series Hood.
    Let's see what happens.

Ill probably grab Iron fist, just to get rid of a few of the floppys i have.
Probably would have waited for paperback as well. Depends on the aesthetic of the hardback.

I'd much rather have the hardback. I was thinking of buying Iron fist but......waiting for the paperback as I don't have that much money.

How much would you normally sell the hardback for and how much will it be at PB price?

The hardback is $19.99, which translates to £12.99, but we'll be selling it for £9.99, which is a fairly typical price for a new release paperback.

Hmmm, I may have to buy into this - it seems like a radical new idea

I do tend to buy the hardbacks these days. They tend to look much better on the bookshelf than the TPBs. The Marvel ones are printed on better paper, too.

As a Vaughan fan - Y Last Man and Ex-Machina anyway - I might buy the Hood book. Being hardback gives me an extra incentive to buy a book. I picked up the third tpb of Rex Mundi last week and the inside edge of the cover has already come away from the first page.

I wonder if in future hardbacks might be more collectible?

The Hood: Blood From Stones Premiere Hardcover is released this week. It's the first of our Hardback Books at Paperback Prices experiment. It'll be £9.99.
The Hood was a marvel mini series from about 5 years ago, written by Brian K Vaughan. It's about a young guy, down on his luck who gains superpowers but rather than use his powers for good he decides that "with great power comes great opportunity". Given that the Hood is going to be such a prominant character in the Marvel Universe over the next few months this is an ideal time to catch up on his origin.
Fans of Vaughans Runaways, Y The Last Man and Ex Machina should check this out too. It's full of the great mix of bold action and quiet character moments that we expect from the best writer currently working in the comic industry.

will you be getting a lot in, and do you think it is the sort of book that will kept in stock for a long amount of time? some collected editions become scarce after a while, but certain stuff seems to always be in stock

    Don't know, and don't know.
We're getting in more than we would if we didn't have the deal on. It remains to be seen if we'll keep the price this low if we have to get in restocks.

The new Iron Fist book should be out this week. It's hardback but is available at the paperback price. It's been a great series, I can't wait to read it again.

Oh yes. Immortal Iron Fist is fantastic. Grabbed as soon as I saw it next to the till.

Depending on whether I'm on a cheap week or an expensive week, I'll pick up Rise And Fall Of The Shi'Ar Empire and the aformentioned Hood.

It's a great book, but if you've already read it save your pennies for something else.
Upcoming Hardbacks at Paperback prices include... Thunderbolts by Warren Ellis, Ghost Rider Trail of Tears, New Universal, Fallen Son Captain America, Wolverine Evolution and maybe Fantastic Four - The New Fantastic Four.

What's that sound? Could it be the sound of my bank manager screaming?

    I think it might be.

Ah well, at least I'll be getting hardbacks for paperback prices...
