OK Comics has been nominated for an award, and we need more votes to help us win.
We’ve been nominated for the ‘Retail Legend’ award in Leeds Guide Magazine. These awards are a pretty big deal locally and the awards ceremony is a pretty glitzy social occasion. This nomination is great for us because Leeds Guide usually support upscale hair salons and swanky clothing boutiques. This is the first year we’ve been nominated and OK Comics is up against Marks and Spencer! OK Comics is the Comic Book Shop in Leeds, stocking exclusively comics and graphic novels. It’s the only shop in the world to run a FREE graphic novel lending library. We run monthly ‘Drink & Draw’ social events, sell hardback books at paperback prices, and even have our own reusable bag for life, the KAPOWCH! We’re active in changing old fashioned perceptions of comics and have been extremely successful at selling graphic novels to people from every walk of life. Believe it or not, we are the only remaining independent bookshop of any kind in Leeds city centre.
Marks and Sparks have nothing on you guys. Your shop smells nice, not like something you would find in the back of a cuboard at your grans house. You guys have ace customer service, your always up for a chat and such, all you get there is, "Whos next please" "thats x amount". Legends indeed!
I don't know what it is. Is it A Good Thing? Hopefully so. Will there be an awards ceremony? Hey maybe it'll be hosted by David Jason, Simon Pegg or Jah Jah Binks. Best get OKOliver an appointment at the salon and get TC a new dress. That one he always wears is getting shabby.

Apparently there is an awards ceremony. I work at schuh and we got nominated before i started so i hear, i think chris one of the old employees even accepted and award for Topshop. His speech actually contained the phrase "i guess this means we are still the TOP SHOP!".

Done it. You are my favourite shop handsdown. Im moving next year and I can imagine myself crying thinking of leaving you guys... Probably because where Im heading has no comic shops...but thats when your mail order will be used ;) I will make special trips to see you though when Im up in the North, now thats the sign of a good shop!
Went to Cornwall last week and tried finding their only comic shop, only to be found it had shut down last month. It would have been my local.
Now, Im not a soft guy but I thought how this is where I would be living, with no OK Comics, no drink and draw, no comics library, no comic banter or browsing... and I sat down by a bin and started crying. Told you I would in that previous post!
It was the Leeds Retail Awards Ceremony last night. We won. I was absolutely speechless when I went up to claim the award. We were the only shop to get a standing ovation. I was told that winning the Retail Legend category was a foregone conclusion weeks ago, so many people had voted for us that there was very little chance of anybody catching us up. THANKS TO EVERYBODY WHO VOTED FOR US. IT REALLY MEANS SO MUCH THAT SO MANY OF OUR CUSTOMERS SUPPORTED US THIS WAY.
