Okay, before we start I've got to be honest I was going to drop this after the first issue. I mean c'mon sympathise with me I'm a Marvel geek and a Thor reader/collector from way back before some of you were even twinkles in somebody's eyes. I think Kirby's run on Thor (from about JIM 116 through to Thor 158) is some of his best work. Simonson's career for me is definitely benchmarked by his run on Thor during the 80s.

But for every high on Thor there's always been two or three lows.

And after the first issue I thought JMS and Coipel were going to be one of those.

And I was wrong. Boy was I wrong.

Thor is rapidly becoming a must read comic. JMS is actually treating the character with an amazing amount of reverance something that has been sorely lacking in the work of other writers of the title. And whilst I'm not too enamoured of Coipel's version of the costume at least he's drawing a god, a mythological character. His version of the character reeks of power. With Coipel's take on the character we're looking at some one who's barely keeping it under control. He's not some nondescript character in another JRjr comic. This guy stands out, and for once he has stature.

The plot may be pedestrian in that it's going nowhere fast, but in the third issue JMS has laid the groundworks probably for the next twelve or fifteen issues. And done so in such a fashion that I'll buy them. (I mean c'mon, the Warriors Three in the next issue).

If only to see Tony Stark get his a*!e handed to him on plate.

    You don't mess with Asgardians

I've never read Thor in my life (other than when he is in other series, such as Avengers) but picked up #1 of the new series just for the artwork. The story didn't grab me but I decided to give #2 a try, and even though it didn't grab me either I thought I'd give it one final try with #3... and I'm so glad I did, #3 was indeed an awesome issue, and not just for seeing Tony get the smackdown he deserved. I like the slow building plot of Asgard being rebuilt, I'm tempted to go buy the Thor disassembled trade just so I know more about what happened beforehand.

JMS has been hit and miss for me. His early ASM stuff was awesome, but the whole "Spider-totem" thing was rubbish, where as Supreme Power was pure brilliance.

I get the feeling that the guys that didnt sign up to the act will end up living in asgard. After what stark said about it not being US soil.

There used to be a guy who'd come into OK Comics, he was a 6 foot 6 inches body builder who wore cut off jeans, no shirt and big steel toe capped boots. He had long dark hair and spoke with a thick eastern European accent.
We called him Conan, because he read Conan comics. He was also the worlds best racist and wanted to fight everyone.
