My Chemical Romance front man Gerard Way writing a comic? I didn't think much of the Free Comic Book Day version, but I am a real fan of Gabriel Bá's artwork so I picked up #1 this week anyway.

Surprisingly I found it pretty enjoyable. It's quite light hearted and fun, there are some great visual touches like all the babies being born with domino masks on. I'm trying to think what it's most like - there's hints of Casanova in there due to the artist, but also the script plays around with cliches in a similar way.

    But is it emo?

The FCBD story didn't impress me at all (I only wanted it for the excellent Zero Killer story), felt like a LOEG-Lite to me, but I've heard people compare the first issue to Grant Morrison's work so I may have to give it a try. Is it really that good? I'm guessing if it's "Light hearted" then it's not really as much like LOEG as I thought it may be?

And if it's anything like Way's music then it wont be anything like "emo" ;-)

The only way it resembles League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is in the Victoriana of the designs. Suits and canes, horse-drawn carriages etc.

I liked it. It's loads better than the Free Comic Book Day thingee.
I can understand the Grant Morrison comparisons, it's a bit crackers in places. Thumbs up from me.

And if sales continue at this rate, it'll be up there with Civil War. It's already sold out X-Men, Spider-Man and everything published by DC. It's only been out for 3 days.
  1.
It's pretty good. Not what I was expecting at all. It's pretty original but I just worry they may be trying to cram too many ideas into one story.
