whose up for putting together a gang of vigilantes to patrol the mean streets of leeds on friday night putting a stop to the evil that has tarnished our fair city
I have faith a team of about eight strong should do it, rotation on leadership and a monthly meeting at the central library to discuss tactics and im afriad if your under 17 you can only scan the police radio frequencys, im not getting done for child endangerment
I shall take the possition of leader for the first month as THE WALL: the rock to which justice clings
why not with all our marvel heroes turning out to be fictional (who would have guessed) we need some real heroes! so be the best you can be walking-X you could even have a cool alias like mr invisible (due to your ability to follow people and not be seen:)
yeah kinda like the seven samuri, or the magnificent seven, in the rough guide to superheros theres a part on real life superheros from articles in papers and stuff and there was one about this woman dresses up in a costume i think and helps really drunk helpless women home so that nothing will happen to them, I've just checked the book and she's called Terrifica and she carries pepper spray and a mobile phone, lipstick and a camera to photograph pervy men all in her utility belt, and she says she's not superstrong she's just sober. So theres something to think about next time you go out.
Wow, it's weird that this has been broght up now. I've been putting something similar together for a little while now. We should definately pool our ideas. Earnest Hemingway once wrote "Leeds is a good place, and worth fighting for", I agree with the second part...
i'm in, i got ninja moves that could defeat scott pilgrim..and i like dressing up :) and every team of vigilantes NEEDS, i reiterate NEEDS a redheaded female...
No one thinks about being a super hero more then me, no feels more ready for this then me...
but we ain't super heros, and I ain't one.
Even with the all the op-culture related quips in the world and comci related knowledge...
are you seriously saying you want to go out on friday nights and mess with the various numbers of; crackheads, smack heads, drug dealers, pimps, psycho chavs, drunken fools, brutal police and just plain nutters???
ok but who runs your comic store when your stabbed by a crack head, or head stoved in by a drunken lout? or your shot for messing in a pimp's business?
Leeds is a beautiful place. I've lived here for over 30 years and, even though I go out in the city centre 3 or 4 times a week, I've rarely seen any trouble.
You do know that Kasier Cheifs song, I predict a riot is about Leeds right???
I go into town to and avoid trouble but I still see the drug dealers by St Johns, you always see drunken sods on a night out, or in the day as I did yesterday, there is often people kicking off and well the list goes on..
Leeds is a great place don't get me wrong but to under estimate the risks u take there is dodgy.
People getting beat up for no reason and crazy bouncers galore.
Leeds is ace and the 'crackheads, smack heads, drug dealers, pimps, psycho chavs, drunken fools, brutal police and just plain nutters' are all what make our city ace, and anyway it'll just mean more kickin ass. I'm quite tall so i could be like giant man or summat.
we need someone like walkin-x with his stalking and invisibility skills to follow criminals to their super secret hideouts so we can bust in and open a can of whoop ass.
fine I will use all my skills of stealth and invisbility.
Plus my super weaving through crowd skills, my ability to pass through tight spaces with my nimble frame and my awesome freak you out with intense stare power.
walking x i said vigilantes not superheroes i know none of us have powers but that should never stop a hero
georgiana welcome in your right we do need you
austin no your only 15 your not old enougth i did state in the ruels
jared how would you like to be an oracle type figure i think walking x is right we carnt afford to lose you to the scum of this city and then you can come save us when we get captured
walking x if your not willing to help remove yourself from this topic all we leeds people are trying to do is inspire the good people to do what is right and to inspire fear unto evil doers there are some things the police carnt do were gonna be the people to do that
seriously though, what constitues as vigilantism? if i see fighting in the street, i'd be inclined to help stop it, (so far i haven't but i don't look for it)
I have that spoof guide to being batman book lying around somewhere.
hey i've helped stop stuff in the street before, dragging of drunk girls into cars, fighting outside bars etc and ive been commended on it. i've also helped with the stopping of drug dealers (the bad ones) and help/advice giving to prostitutes too, , but that was back home in brighton, i was sober for 2 years, made a difference... i think this is an ace idea. i do want to dress up though....
Arseface ~ "Leeds is ace and the 'crackheads, smack heads, drug dealers, pimps, psycho chavs, drunken fools, brutal police and just plain nutters' are all what make our city ace" ~ I've got to disagree. These are the things that spoil the city not just on a night but during the day as well.
And Georgina ~ does your comment mean that there are good drug dealers? Scum & criminals that prey on the weaknesses of others for profit are scum & criminals no matter how you look at it.
Nimbus - i've known some that aren't terrible... some that have actually been helpful. one supplied my friends grandparents with weed after the doctor told them 'off the record' it would be helpful. and one that helped me stop using everything cos he was a nice guy. supplied only what his friends wanted to his friends. i'd say that isn't terrible. and these were perfectly respectable members on society, neither scum nor criminals, one worked in a bank, i'd say thats worse than the dealing personally ;)
i'm not saying 'woah, look what we could do' its just that its possible to help strangers out in public without being persecuted for doing so. its using what you're good at for the benefit of others. i use nursing skills for strangers, i do it without thinking cos its who i am. i dont do it for recognition... which is why i want a mask with my costume :)
I am in. I wanna be a crimefighter. I wonder how many are in? It doesn't have to be 7. You can have more heroes etc. I dont have powers, but I'm VERY good at making baddies talk.
oh before i forget, there is another hero, go on to www.freewebs.com/onlinedoctor this site is for real, and this person is definately helping to make the world a better place. We could use this doctor as a spiritual guide? What do you think? Shall we enlist The Doctor?
you know a guy got stabbed to death for trying to help some one out the other week...and I heard countless stories of people being beaten to pulps for helping some1 out or just for no reason...
now I aint having a go so dont blast me here but I am saying these things because if your serious you have to consider them.
unforunately in the real world, if you die, you die physically. No coming back loads like in comics.
if u wanna go for it after all that then cool but I am just saying...think about consequences.
back to superman costume jokes...
this was in the wrong thread, soz if you read it twice.
seriously , is that kinda thing necassary? do you think people on here live in la la land or leeds/surrounding areas? i'm sure everyone above 14 is aware of consequences in their life... oh i'm i'm very comfortable differentiating real life and comic life...and i read indies so its even harder.
most people you hear getting killed or seriously hurt, whilst helping other people, do so on their own, which is why you'd need a group to pull it off. Strength in numbers.
To really diffuse things though, an army might be preferable to hopefully deter violent endings.
Is there a way of posting pictures on here, as I think people should start putting costume designs on with their Alter-Ego ideas! And has anyone heard of the 'Who wants to be a superhero?' TV programme that is on in the US? I don't know if it's just a rumour but I heard Stan Lee has something to do with it over there, but a British version has been optioned too, no doubt E4 will get the rights to show the US version, I'm gonna go do some web searching to see if this is true!
Maybe its coz I saw an episode of Bones awhile back...
there was a group of comic fans who dressed up like their own comic creations and one of them, this guy called himself Citizen 14, actually did the superhero thing, he got a costume, got a weapon and went to stop his boss, who was beating his wife..
..well he got brutally killed and dumped...
I am sure people are well aware of dangers in the city but it easy to get carried away with actions and costumes and fun, and then forget u may not come home at night...
and would numbers help? maybe the "bad guys" might get their own numbers up, so then what, its pitch battles in the street??
they call that hooliganism..
anyway I am sure I will be blasted for being the voice of rationality here but I'll say it anyway..
maybe you could wake up and smell the coffee, I think we're all aware that if you go out looking for trouble you'll find it, and like georgina said, people can tell the difference between comics and real life.
thanks :) and as far as 'dressing up' goes, i go see my mates band Send More Paramedics and i like to dress as a zombie, as do most the crowd...but no one has ever left a show, or whole tour for that matter thinking they might actually be a zombie...not even zombie kids (get it, i almost made a funny)...
fine...whatever..your right, your all right, perfect, never wrong, exactly spot on, lets all dress up and go and smack round some people in town, that will never lead to trouble in a million years.
