Bought it on thursday and was a little bit dissapointed and i thought it was gonna be a bit of an espionage/find the skrull type story but it wasn't, the beginning was abit dull but it picked up toward the end.
    Thoughts?

I haven't been reading any of the build-up (New Avengers, etc) but I was pretty impressed by the first issue. I even liked Yu's artwork, which I was never that keen on before. His drawing of Mr Fantastic being shot to goo is ace!

I thought some of the "reveals" were quite clever - not necessarily major characters, but ones in positions to do a lot of damage.

I just hope I can follow the story in the mini-series without having to pick a load of other titles.

I'm pretty sure all the major stuff is gonna be in the main series.
I totally loved Secret Invasion, or Clandestine Assault as we're calling it here. I'm totally gutted about some of the Skrulls, and totally confused by the ending.
    He Loves You.

Also. Why is Armadillo in the Raft? Isn't he part of the 50 State Initiative, working with the Texas Avengers?
    Discuss.

The armadillo in the raft is a different one - he's in protective custody as he's being stalked by some Dime Bar advert-obsessed weirdo.

    Maybe.

I enjoyed SI, and liked the reveals. Does anyone know what the 'clues' are in early New Avengers issues?

Also, I have no doubt missed this, but Dr Doom on the Raft? What story did this occur in!?

He was captured by Starks Mighty Avengers in the most recent issue. Drawn by Bagley.

That was my assumption. Given how expensive I'd guess that building a super-prison is, and given how infrequently they detain anyone for more than a few minutes, I wonder if they ever consider simply not bothering?

why don't they just cap them in the face or use lethal injection? they do it to ordinary americans so why not supervillians?

Or just leave them to do what they want and see what happens...

There was an avengers graphic novel where doom took over the world. It was called Emperor Doom, only Wonder Man was left to stop him. He did.

One of the daftest things in comics (and I know just how daft comics are, before anyone needs to illustrate that (though what you'd be on here for if you thought thay were that daft I dunno)) is that any hero can beat any villain if the fight's in their own book - at least Wonder Man is powerful (if badly dressed). Daredevil could stop Doom if he invaded Hell's Kitchen. I'd like to see a comic where a top villain simply smashes the crap out of a hero who is plainly out of their league. It'd be funny.

Mr. Lee? May I introduce Ms.Tigra? She caters to the needs of our more discerning clientele. If you'd like to repair within the pages of recent issues of New Avengers I think you'll be most satisfied.
(I'm sure someone who actually reads that comic can tell you which issues contain the Tigra slappin', I hear there's plenty of it.)

And no one beats DOOM! Not even in their own comical periodical magazine. They merely temporarily impede DOOM's progress. DOOM! shall triumph over all!

Having read the first issue I'm just waiting for someone to tell me it's magic. Then maybe it will make sense.

Issue 1 of Kick Ass. A proper old fashioned face pounding.

See, I read New Avengers (and everything else released by the House of Ideas...) so I saw the Tigra title-fight, but she's a bit-parter at best. And Kick Ass was awesome, but really, a nerd getting outnumbered and run over, funny as that is, isn't what I was after. I was looking for, say, Mephisto to turn up in Spider-Man and just totally destroy him instead of Spidey somehow getting the upper hand even though he is clearly overmatched. Wait...hang on a minute...that rings a bell...Mephisto...Spidey...awful crap...no, no, that was just the story.
