I think the team would be five or six strong with 1) cap 2) ironman 3) black panther 4) thor 5) wasp 6) gaintman \ antman you could maybe swap wasp for black widow, and you never know they could use Beast because they wouldn't have to do a origin
I dont think Spidey is an option because of the rights (i dont know if sony have still got them), wolverine is getting his own film and i wouldn't put it past them because they put him in everything (check out wolverine vs kiss, at christmas, nuff said!). The thing to remember is studios are obliged to cover different demographics to help connect with a wider audience. So a all white, all male team is unlikely, and who doesn't want to see someone like Megan Fox (ridiculously fit girl from Transformers) in scarlet witch lycra.
I can't wait 'til its big box office smash and they trot out the inevitable sequels with a much larger cast that will struggle to be developed in the course of a two hour movie that will result in poor reviews and mediocre box office returns which will put paid to the franchise! Or am I just being cynical?
Gee, I hope we don't get West Coast Avengers... US Agent, War Machine, Wonder Man, Vision... sterling characters all ;) what will the general public make of this motley crew of 'evil twins' ?!
See the way id do an avengers movie is to have separate movies following each different character of the team. Marvel always like to cash in!
So you could effectively hav Cap fighting the bad guy in his movie from one perspective, and then iron man doing his thing in the back ground. But in the ironman version of the movie you see cap in the back ground. If that makes sense.
The likes of Wizard seem to be hoping for a Hulk/Cap/Iron Man/Thor team, but it seems unlikely. But without a star name (Spidey, Wolverine, etc) the public may not be interested - I could see Iron Man and/or Cap alongside the likes of Hawkeye, Vision, any hot chick (Wasp, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch) and a character made black for demographics - maybe Ant/Giantman.
wow, a discussion on female avengers an not a mention of Shulkie! the lot of you should be ashamed. i suppose Scarlet Witch and the Wasp would be more likely.
No wait, if we are talking love interests that can also participate in action sequences, it has to be Sharon Carter, with an AMAZING TWIST that everyone who has been reading Captain America will see coming for miles anyway.
As mentioned, I think it all depends on rights. FOX have the rights to X-Men and thus Wolverine, but for how long?
Iron Man and Hulk, plus the upcoming Thor, Ant Man and Cap movies are all made by Marvel themselves, so it's a good bet they will all end up as Avengers. Plus there is a rumour that Thor will have a cameo in Iron Man 2 just as Downey JR has a cameo in Hulk.
I like the idea of all these movies crossing over in a small way and building up to a big Avengers movie.
Midnighter ~ although both are Marvel productions, Iron Man was with Paramount, The Hulk is with Universal. are these only distribution deals, do the rights lay with the studios, or were they financing deals?
Captain Si ~ although guaranteed some return, the thing with AVP is they were both flagging franchises, not current blockbuster material. A studio crossover compromises the characters because no party involved is going risk hurting their property.
Hulk is distributed by Paramount in the UK, but Universal in the US (Do they own each other?). From what I understand, Marvel has a ton of money and so are making their own films, meaning they have total control (they being Marvel Studios), they then have a distribution deal with Paramount/Universal/McMicroDisney. So Marvel are making the films themselves, and someone else distributes them and gets a bit of money for it. But Spider-Man movie rights are all with Sony, X-Men (and spin offs) with Fox and I'm guessing Blade and Punisher are with other companies.
So Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Ant-Man, Avengers and anything else they come up with can all crossover as they are owned by the same studio, but everything before Iron Man would be a legal mess to try and crossover.
I thought that Aliens and Predator were both owned by Fox?
I remember an interview with someone at Dark Horse and they had both properties and decided to cross them over in a comic and it was no problem as they were licensed from the same place. And a year or so later in predator 2 there is an Alien skull in the Predator's ship.
I remember reading that WildCATS vs. Aliens was Warren Ellis's way of causing continuity havoc - as the creatures were only licensed for those issues they couldn't flashback to all the characters merrily slaughtered, or even refer specifically to how they died.
Yeah, I think he was a bit pissed off at having to do a licensed crossover so used it to his best advantage to make it mean something, yet any flashbacks just say "they were killed" haha
