I expected to like Viva Las Vegas more than than Invincible Iron Man, but it was the other way around...! Still, Las Vegas has some of the best Adi Granov artwork to date.
I didn't bother with Viva Las Vegas, trying (and I say TRYING) to cut back on mini-series and what not. But Invincible Iron Man #1 was excellent, did everything a first issue should and presented things so fans of the film could dive in without having read IM before. I was never much of an IM fan until Extremis (purely cos I love Warren Ellis' work), but I've been enjoying the main series since then and so gave the new series a try, and I think I prefer it already.
Captain Britain was also a great first issue, doing everything a first issue should. The fight scenes were amazing, especially Captain Britain punching the head off a Skrull!!! I'm possibly the least patriotic person in the country but I have a huge soft spot for Cap and Union Jack (and all the old Marvel UK characters), so I can't wait to see UJ pop up in this series.
Glad I'm not the only one who love both Invincible Iron Man and Captain Britain. What amazed me about Invincible was that despite Matt Fraction insisting that he'd not seen the film script, the comic script was perfectly in keeping with the film, as well as being consistent with the other Iron Man series. Both were excellent first issues, doing everything a first issue should do with just the right amount of flair. We already know that Fraction is a talent to watch. Looks like Cornell is making the step from TV to comic scripts with consumate ease. Let's just hope he's more in the Marc Guggenheim school of schedule keeping than the Allan Heinberg.
I think Cornell should be ok as he only writes for TV, whereas isn't Heinberg a writer and also in charge of a lot of stuff and so has a lot on his plate? (Wish he woul dget some more Young Avengers written, I loved that series!). Cornell's Wisdom was late but I think that was down to a change of artist half way through.
Gee, I thought all the Knights Of Pendragon had awful costumes in the second series. The armour ended up looking like space suits and then they changed into standard superhero fare. And gritted their teeth. A lot.
