Still unsure about 1985. I'm guessing there's things happening in this issue that later will really mean something, but the story didn't really advance. The art is top notch though.
Final Crisis. This is keeping my attention, shockingly for a DC Universe book. I feel I'm missing bits as I'm not a regular DC reader, but still enjoying it. My only concern in that, OK the story is about evil finally winning, but it all just seems so easy!
That's it! - Hulk has 'been' and now he smells. That's also why he was in the woods.
Not reading 1985, but best of luck with that.
Final Crisis: Still interested but the Boom Tube between here and Leeds malfunctioned, once it's repaired I'll be all over that thing.
I don't think you are missing anything Mr. Infinitum, I do read some DC books and so far FC seems to be having no impact at all. I think GM's stroboscopic storytelling is giving the impression of a larger story of which you are only seeing chosen chunks - like his Batman stuff but here it's working.
If you're referring to "missing" who characters are, well, okay, this should fix that:
Maybe DC are just hanging back a bit. You know so they can re-vamp everything once they know exactly what GM is doing. I can see the spin offs now ~ "Countdown Until Everyone That You Never Heard Of Or Couldn't Care Less About Dies". And it would have to be a weekly, working backwards so everyone dies in the first issue so you don't have to read any of the subsequent ones. Thereby saving a rain forest. "DC ~ DEVOID OF IMAGINATION & GREEN TOO!." I could just see that as the new banner running across the top of all the tie in issues.
That's sounds good. As long as Crying Superman is in it every week. I can't get enough Crying Superman. It's not an Event without Crying Superman. Weep you Last Son of A Doomed Planet. Weep!
I have read issue 2. And it was good. So good in fact I now no longer tar it with the "Event" brush but think of it as Another Good Grant Morrison Comic. Gosh! wasn't that last page reveal a big boy howdy? Unless you had actually looked at the cover, I mean. Whodathunk! (Slight spoilers ahead.)
Turned out I was wrong about MM being back already (it was the Exiled Monitor - or possibly some Rain Man like new character). Turpin's fate was creepy deepy. I don't know about the Japanese bits; they were kind of funny but surely there's more to Japanese culture than this whole BigCrazyMangaMechaGojirraPopBurst stuff we always get? Does it work both ways; I mean, is Manga full of Roast Beef People sullenly drinking Binge in the rain? Maybe. Luthor didn't say anything as funny as "My creed is - Luthor!" but it was so funny last time it was still funny this time. If no one died in that explosion that must be the least effective explosive known to man. At least six people were less than a foot away and you're telling me - no casualties? What was it? A wood and cheese bomb? Picky-jokey aside this was packed with plot progression and bursting with character and incident, golly, it was a good comic.
The best thing though, is how the New Gods are actually being treated as Gods and not just another bunch of super heroes. Batman? Paf! Gone. Awesome. I mean, I have an enormous amount of respect(*) for Batman and how through dedication, insanity and pluck he has turned himself into the ultimate human being. But y'know against a God. No chance. Maybe that's why it seems easy for Eeevil to be winning. It would be. And ain't that a pickle?
And was that a tear, Superman? I rather think it was. Yesssssssssssssssssssssss! Crying Superman! This Event is officially open!
(*) tempered by the knowledge that he is, y'know, not real.
