The Wire starts on Monday night for it's two month, nightly run on BBC 2.
If don't you want every other TV series you ever watch the be made to look stupid, don't watch the Wire. If you want unlikely over the top shoot outs and explosions, don't watch the Wire. If you're a bit thick and need everything explaining to you, don't watch the Wire. If you don't want to get addicted to a new tv series within three or four episodes, don't watch the Wire.
Just finished the 1st season on DVD and you're right, it changes everything. Its amazing and can't wait to start seasons 2 and onwards. Have to admit i didn't get it at first, slow and uneventful, but then, it kicks in and all the character development suddenly makes sense and it becomes so so addictive. Although i do think DVD boxsets are the way forward for this show, even if it is on every night.
Does anyone know wheres cheep for seasons 3 to 5?
Generation Kill, from the makers of the Wire, is also extraordinary. It takes the Wires techniques and ramps up the action to a 7 part masterpiece of Television. Much recommended, although no longer will you be able to think of Captain America in quite the same way.
1. Omar (look for him in the upcoming movie of The Road) 2. Clay Davis 3. Snoop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felicia_Pearson) 4. Kenard, That little kid that Michael beats the hell out of. 5. McNulty (girls want him, guys want to be him)
It just made the return of "evil Jimmy" even more awful. Or do I mean Awe Filled. McNulty has so many best bits, but my personal favorite was when he went DEEP undercover in the brothel. Good times.
Can we please not have spoilers on here?! I've got the first few episodes recorded but haven't watched yet, so, pretty please don't make me angry...you wouldn't like m...oh, hang on, different show.
The Wire needs a lot of concentration. I got up to series 4 and then ran out of steam for a bit. I did marathon Generation Kill over 2 days recently though.
If you want a cop show to watch over your cornflakes in the morning, record The Mentalist on Five US - it's CSI: Derren Brown. Pure junk food TV, but enjoyable.
Wanted to record The Wire but it ended up clashing with other stuff that I was watching. Much like Lee though I intend to binge TV this weekend (10 episodes of Fringe to catch up although I still can't make my mind up if it's worth the effort or not). And the new series of Dexter starts in a fortnight.
I am watching The Wire. It's pretty good so far but I haven't yet reached the Magic Zone where it becomes the Best Thing On TV Ever (that's still Terry and June). But it is very good.
<SPOILERS maybe(?)> Highlights so far have been the ballistics lesson in the dead lady's kitchen conducted entirely through the medium of profanity and physical movement, Omar, MCNulty's; "It's my night for the kids.", Omar, McNulty's "If I were a cruder man..." set piece, and the general downbeat moving-at-it's-own-speedness which is nice.
Altho' McNulty gets 2 fave moments I would not wish anyone to think I like the character. So far he exhibits almost toxic levels of smugness which really honks me off. Were I a cruder man, a shallower man, I might also point out that the fact that he seems to be wearing the teeth of a much smaller jawed man and this may be subliminally influencing me.
i am not watching the wire. i watch a lot of rubbish tv and would only start crying if i watched this. although in common with most us shows, it will no doubt get ruined when the network demands an increase in audience share which will involve 'breaking new ground' which will then spoil it for eveyone. or trot out hundreds of increasingly pointless spin offs like CSI, which for one night of the week actually fills all of channel five's schedule. stupid television.
however! you should all watch stewart lee's comedy vehicle and charlie brooker's newswipe.
