What Marvel comic was blatantly, but lovingly, ripped off for the origin of the Transformers race in the Marvel comics? (None of that Quintesson nonsense)
Midnighter! You get a banana! And as Unicron resembles Galactus, I'd have to go with Fantastic Four type shenanigans, but i have no idea of specifics... boo...
Did you mean the origins of the crash landing in earth, or Primus creating them in his image after shaping a giant asteroid around himself and into cybertron?
The bit before all that, and yes it was Galactus. Unicron ate up the entire universe, or so he thought, but a new universe appeared from the bits he left behind. So not only do Unicron and Galactus both devour planets to keep up their energy, but both are the sole survivors of the universe previous to the one they exist in.
Now you've got me going. G1 Rocks, Beast Wars comes second for me, especially for how it drawed in many aspects of both TV and Comics. If only Armada had done lots of research on the subject first. It's quite a good read looking into 'Beast Wars' production history on wiki. Now someone ask a question, actually i'll ask one, since I just watched the first series of 'Beast Machines'.
Q) Who's 'Spark' (I do love that term) was origionally going to be contained in the Vehicon General 'Thrust'...
The whole thing with Dinobot in Beast Wars was way ahead of anything else in kids TV, in fact I can't think of any other cartoon with an episode about someone contemplating suicide.
I'm not up on Beast Machines as much, so I'll have a guess that it was Airazor as that's the only flying Beast Wars character I can think of off the top of my head.
Thats actually wrong, so i'll give someone else time to answer. And wasn't their an episode in G1 where 'First Aid' went off into seclusion, close enougth for me...
me me me meee! if i wasn't so slow at getting back here, i'd have answered your question smiggy!
Beast Wars is indeed the mightiest of all TF cartoons, with Animated running a very close second. Beast machines is starting to hit home with me a little more on my third run through. It lacks the sparkle of beast wars, but has some excellent ideas and themes running through it. i think my fave episode is the one i've just watched where black arachnia succeeds in restoring silverbolt, only for him to be horrified at the attrocities he committed when Megatron had him reprogrammed as the Vehicon Jetstorm...and how much he enjoyed being freed from his code of honour. really did a lot for that character, as i previously squirmed with embarrasement everytime he opened his mouth during BW (see, another masterstroke of storytelling - getting you to feel and think stuff about the characters, rather than the flash bang meh, of other kids shows!)
anyway, a question...hmmm...
name the three members of the Tri-Predacus council (and the name of their combined form!hee hee hee!)
I've always liked Megatron, but only because of the toys - I was never a fan of the comics or cartoons. Although they were better than Mask. But not as good as Battle of the Planets.
Anyway, erm, I think Megatron was dead old and ace and built by The Quintesson or something? Hasn't he been Decepticon leader for ages? Or longer than Optimus was around, at least?
Megatron was built by the Quintessons, was he not? I'm a little hazy, but if i remember that F**k awful five faces of darkness origin tale correctly, the transformers were all 'product' split along military and transport lines, gaining awareness and revolting against the Quints. And starting a planet wide civil war.
oh, is that Heavy Metal War? where Megs has the constructicons install (and i quote) "the power chip rectifiers" from his Decepticon warriors, so he can use their abilities to trounce Optimus Prime in a fight?
Okay, hmm... From the strange world of the US Transformers comic, what was Ratbat's 'brilliant' plan for stealing Earth's resources?
ha ha haa thats right! utter rubbish! what a stupid, stupid plan! as much as people knock budiansky, even his weaker stories still trounce most episodes of the cartoon! brilliant!
we will invade their world and steal their resources through the medium of...the car wash! yes! and to keep labour costs down, we shall employ only the choicest illiegal immigrants! my plan cannot fail...
worst of all, Decepticon high command actually AGREED to this bollocks?! Madness.
Not strictly a question about Transformers, but is Ratbat's plans the dumbest load of wibble since Plan 9 from Outer Space? If they'd infiltrated the gas station, could they not just nick the petrol directly? Being as, you know, they're massive killer robots and what not? That's ridiculous, Lucky Captain Rabbit King.
I'm just lucky that was one of the storues i'd picked up from library one day. It's odd watching the TV series and then rading the comics where the characters are more fleshed out like Ratbat only being part of Soundwaves group on TV but taking comand in the comics.
Q) How did Shockwave die (or appear to die for the first time I think) in the US Marvel comics run. He also had a crazy plan but thats not important.
there is some sense in ratbats plan - he's a fuel auditor and so goes about constructing his plans with maximum fuel efficiency in mind (i.e getting the natives to drain their own resources). presumably, cybertron has a lot of transforming car washes lying around though, otherwise i can't see it being very fuel efficient to design and build a prototype and then muck aboput transporting it across the galaxy to earth...
Shockwave 'died' burning up on re-entry to earth's atmosphere following a battle with Fortress Maximus after his launch of their tropical island base into space (it was really a rocket! who'd a thunk it?!). Club Con was a goofy idea - advertising themselves as a tropical paradise so as to keep human military interest at bay. Shockwave then reappeared in the UK comics returning to the old decepticon fotress to take command of the earth bound decepticons and renew his offensive against galvatron, or later showed up in blackpool and recruited warriors to overthrow scorponok (one of the many strange and wonderful continuity divergences present in the comic franchise!).
Q) In Generation 2, what amusing slogan is daubed on Grimlock's shoulder? and for a bonus point, what adorns his head?
A pun on "gee, axe us", becasue Simon Furman beleived the series was going to cancelled quickly. And his ship was called 'Twilight', the decepticon flagship
by using that most amazing of sci-fi cliches! he "reversed the polarity!"...well, actually flipped a switch that made his energies dissipate or somesuch. Great animation in call of the primitives. just another cack story. boo.
sorry, i should have said US G2 :)
okay...hmm...here's one
Q) What did Rack & Ruin transform into before they underwent life saving surgery that took away their ability to transform?
Dam, I was going to say the UK reprints of the US series. You may be braking the rules with this question so someone better get the right answer soon...
Fish Police?!!! there's a rusty bell ringing away in my head...but i think i might be confusing it with sharkey and george (the crime busters of the sea/ sharkey and george/ clear up any mystery!)
anyway, dinobot ate his clone. although, no matter how many times you watch that fight, its clear that the clone has the upper hand...
Q) why was Tarantulas so sure he'd survive the re-writing of history should the ark and its occupants be destroyed?
Ok, ok, ok, i'm still watching 'Beast Wars' after I found it online again, so my one-a-day habbit as brought me to like episode 14 so I don't want to give away the ending for myself but i'll give it a shot...
Fish Police was one of those black and white indie titles of the 80's that came out of nowhere, became "hot" for a while (first issue selling for around $200) and then was forgotten all about once it finished, good fun stuff though :-) (Marvel reprinted a few issues in the 90's to tie in with the Fish Police cartoon, which was watered down for kids and was nowhere near as good as Sharkey and George).
Sadly not quite as successful as TMNT in the end, though both are series that I still keep and read (along with OZ from Caliber) and bring back a lot of good memories. There's something much more interesting about the 80's B&W books than there is about a lot of todays indies.
I'll give you that Smiggy. She turns out to be a protoform transformer activated when Isaac Sumdac comes into contact with it. His DNA creates a transformer with a human alt mode.
Kinda like a pretender, or what they had in the Japanese follow up serieses back in the day, and what we may see in the new movie... I can't beleive I never properly though of that, they had it similar in the comics as well, but they all had special mechanical suits...
Q) How many versions of 'Optimus Primal' were there in 'Beast Wars', ignoring 'Beast Machines' though... bonus for naming them all...
I will eventually stop with the Beast Wars themed questions, only a few more eps left to go...
quick side note, asda have got season one dvd of org transformers cartoon on dvd for 6 pound 71, bargain never got round to replacing da good old vhs copies i had till last night (smacks back pocket) Cling cling
once i get it watched and memory refreshed i may be able to answer some questions
The Works bookshops have the Full Season 1-4 Plus Movie box set for £35, and Boyes (of which Leeds is lacking) have the complete 3 series Takara collection for £15! Bargains!
I was actually thinking of the TV show, but very good answers, you can have your cake and eat it...
I got the compete G1 a while back for about £50, but had to return it due to damage, then found this amazing manchester based imports site and got the Asian collectors edition for £29.99 with key-ring & Art Cards... but once again the US have released an Uber colection that I can't afford or play anyways...
in a major faux pas, the maximals are reverted to their original beast forms, which shouldn't be possible for some of them (most notably Optimus Primal!).
and their memories were wiped. is that it?
i'm getting into a Beast Machines a lot more on my third rewatch. There's a great story and some strong ideas, just a shame there's a lack of decent characterisation (except for Silverbolt) and a lack of humour to break up the continual doom and gloom.
...hmm, on a Beast Machines Tip, what virus, not seen since G1 did Megatron use to turn the Maximals against each other? (ands bonus points if you can figure out why this is a bit self indulgent on the part of the show runner).
Marv Wolfman co-wrote The Two Part Return Of Optimus Prime (which the Hate Plague featured in) and was show runner/series creator/head writer for Beast Machines.
A Furnacian Firebug ofcourse, sent it to mercury in a message pod...
I am having to use the TFwiki for these answers by the way... and I do wonder why Inferno was not invited to back up the wreakers with Sandstorm & Broadside the first time...
Stan Bush wrote The Touch, The Touch was in Boogie Nights, Which starred Mark Whalberg, who was in the remake of The Italian Job along with Charlize Theron, who was in The Devil's Advocate with Keanu Revves, joint worst actor in the world with Nicholas Cage!
;-)
Or the quickest way I can think of:
Stan Bush wrote The Touch from Transformers The Movie, Michael Bay directed the live action Transformers film and Nick Cage was in Michael Bay's The Rock.
Im not excepting your first answer, and it has about 7 steps, but your next one is another way I hadn't though of... My way was;
Stan Buch wrote 'The Touch' for 'The Transformers: The Movie', Staring Optimus Prime, Who met Spider-Man along with the New Avengers, Spider-Man has battled Jack O'Lantern, Who was possed and Battled Ghost Rider, played by Nicolas Cage in the movie...
Or; Stan Buch wrote 'The Touch' for 'The Transformers: The Movie', Staring Optimus Prime, Who met Luke Cage along with the New Avengers, and Nicilas Cage is rumoured to have taken his name from him...
whats a Marvel No-Prize? and your answers were perfectly fine, just no being mean about actors on this thread, save it for the other ones, you know which... now whats ya question...
it was a special award given to Marvel readers who pointed out continuity gaffs and the like, usually in the many letters pages. It is literally a 'No-Prize'. Its just awarded to folk who know their onions.
My question is...Name all ten of Soundwave's cassette minions. Not really a qusetion, I suppose, as I couldn't be arsed framing it as such, but now I've rambled on so much, I may as well have done...
Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, Laserbeak, Ratbat, Buzsaw - these are the ones I can name off the top of my head... Squalktalk & Beastbox I breifley remeber from 'The Ultimate Transformers Guide' book... Overkill & Slugfest I did not know of, but apparently did have a cameo in one episode of the G1 animated series...
