As we all now know, it is just a matter of time and legality before Marvel publish Moore's astonishing Miracleman run (oh, and Gaiman's too). Thinking back though, I remember some truly poor artwork by Chuck Austen (under the name Beckum(?)). Now here's the thing:
If Marvel were to get these flat, lifeless chapters redrawn who do you think would be a good choice? And if you are feeling chatty, why?
Anyone but Steve McNiven. I've got him tied to his drawing board with a 2B pencil superglued in his hand. The last time I looked at any Miracleman comics they looked very, er, well, how shall I put this politely? very much 'of their time'. Perhaps the whole look of the books needs updating. Adi Granov? Clayton Crane?
Kind of, ooh, a, lets see... Ultimate Miracleman! With Bendis/Millar scripting, no doubt. Art by Greg Land. Oh! The pain!
Seriously, dated I can live with, but not Chuck Austen (which is why he's moved out and taken his Toploader CDs with him).
And don't forget that the Quality Comics reprints were not exactly quality comic reprints.
And: Whatever you're doing to McNiven it's working as he is booked at a Convention in September. Obviously he must be further ahead than we thought. Yeah.
Apparently they're expecting attendance to be a record high. People are already queueing up to slap that Ned Flanders mustache off his face. "McNiven, get to work"
