what kind of cleaner would i use to clean graphic novels, its mainly marks from price tickets or gum residue, i wasn thinking some sort of spirits. Has anyone found somthing that works good without getting to damp or damaging the surface.
    Thanks for your time

I have a foolproof way of removing those nasty big Titan Books stickers, but it involves saliva!

I've never managed to simply remove or even rub off those nasty Titan stickers, they always leave a huge mark. But a bit of good old fashioned spit and some blu tak removes them completely!

they come of with water but you can see the residue when tiled in light, thats what i`d like to remove, also this tackier bit is obvioulsy more prone to picking up dirt.

Blu-tack is the answer. After carefully removing as much of the sticker as possible with water (or saliva ;-) )roll a small ball of blu-tack over the sticky area and it should start to bring it off. For more stubborn bits you may need to rub it off with a standard pencil rubber (one of those good shunly white ones from WH Smiths seems best) and then remove the last bit with blu-tack.

Geez, I sound a complete nerd but I bet I could make money off removing those bloody stickers!

Those big Titan ones are put on by Titan themselves when they import the stuff in from the US, can't blame the shops for those ones I'm afraid.

If you've got fingerprints on light coloured covers, us a regular pencil eraser.
We have to use blu-tack all the time for getting olf price stickers off books.

The price stickers that we use at OK Comics are 'low tack' or 'easy peal' so shouldn't cause any problems.
If you do get a bit of sticker glue that's particularly stubborn, put a little bit of lighter fluid on a duster and rub it off with that. The lighter fluid seems to dissolve the glue, without damaging the book. Always ask a grown up for help.

What about the old co-mag ones? Were they the company that used to put the annoying 35p stickers over the american prices?

they are a nightmare i dont bother trying to get them off, by the way methelated spirits is what i used in the end for the graphic novels, works on cards for action figures as well but you only need a little and don`t leave it damp on there.

When I worked at fp we stocked the Comag issues of DC Comics. It was only superhero stuff, and we got them about 4 or 6 weeks after the DC ones came out. Most imported US comics are sold to shops on firm sale, meaning if a shop orders 100 copies and only sells 5, that shop is stuck with 95 copies that it still has to pay for.... but any issues with Comag stickers were returnable. If I remember rightly the Comag issues also retailed for about 50p less than the import ones...
The boss at the time had me peal the Comag stickers off the comics so we could bump the price up. But we could only take of the stickers of two copies of each issue at a time, because removing the stickers rendered the Comag issues unreturnable...
I became an expert at removing stickers from comics using loads of different techniques such as... the "pick, press and roll", the "four corner scratch" and the "wet dab".
  1.
"pick, press and roll", isn't that what you do when there on fire?
  2.
jesus. no wonder you left fp...
